New 2024 European Society of Cardiology guidelines have introduced the term of elevated blood pressure which is defined as blood pressure readings over 120/70. Any blood pressure over 140/90 is considered Hypertension which is more serious that elevated blood pressure.
How often should I check my Blood Pressure?
Patients with diagnosed hypertension should check their blood pressure monthly
Patients with elevated blood pressure (over 120/70) who meet criteria for treatment should monitor their blood pressure monthly
Patients with elevated blood pressure but who do not require treatment should monitor their blood pressure at least yearly
Patients over 40 years old with normal blood pressure 120/70 or lower) should monitor it yearly.
Patients under 40 with normal blood pressure should monitor it every 3 years.
